In 2 Chron.

Heinrich Hammer in Pomeroy, O.

When Master Valentinus Trotzendorf, schoolmaster at Goldberg, wished to exhort the young students to music, he said: Learn to sing, dear sons; when ye shall come into heaven, the holy angels will let you step into their choir.

In 2 Chron. 20, 20, Jehoshaphat leads the Israelites into the Valley of Praise. This city, all houses shall be nothing but Valleys of Praise, not Valleys of Cursing, valles benedictionis non maledictionis. If ye shall be devout dwellers in the Valley of Praise in this life, ye shall hereafter remain joyful Mountaineers of Praise upon the high Mount of Heaven in eternity. At singing schools little garlands are distributed to those who have conducted themselves well. Help, God! what beautiful little crowns of honor will fall in heaven to all pious hearts, who with their glorified little voices will be able to praise God without any stumbling or failing. Oh, were we there! in Regis curia, where the voices of angels and men will sound together in a beautiful harmony. God will grant it to all who desire it, in the name of JESUS Christ. Amen.

☞ The undersigned, as printer of the "Lutheraner," has to beg the pardon of its readers that, besides the late appearance of the paper, the printing of the last numbers of the same has turned out badly. The dreadful epidemic with which our city has now been visited for so long a time seized also almost half of my workmen, so that fresh beginners had to be taken on in order to carry out only the most necessary work at all. The sympathetic reader will therefore take our sad circumstances into consideration. God willing, the distress will now be at an end.
