ger man, brother of the chief, exerts here also a pernicious influence upon the youth, in that he ran away from his parents, grew up without discipline among the Methodists in Canada, and has returned only a little over a year. "The LORD give him a new heart and a new certain spirit!" HE would lead this whole congregation, every single member, to faith, and preserve them unto His day. HE would also tread Satan under our feet and check the enemies of the pure Lutheran Bible doctrine! Therefore let all who love Zion join with us in praying from the heart! And though we can speak of no increase from without, of no conversions of the heathen still dwelling around us in Sibiwaiing — yes, since we must look with sorrow upon those who have been seduced and carried away from us, and see how the devil and the Methodists would wish nothing more gladly than our downfall: yet we will hope in God and His help! HE will not suffer us to be put to shame in our hope. In outward things also this was a year of great care and labor; for since we moved hither only last spring, and there was as yet no dwelling-house, but only a little room in our log church was fitted up for a dwelling; a dwelling-house had of necessity to be erected. But last winter I stood quite alone, and could have the necessary timbers for a log house brought, neither by myself — nor by others, because there was very much ice and no broken oxen to be had. Last spring, however, we had rain almost daily, and since the neighborhood of Shibahyongk is low and level, and within a mile no suitable wood for a house is to be found, and the already wet region had become bottomless through the continuous rain — so there was left us no other choice than to build a frame house, which caused us not only much and great uneasiness on account of the increased costs and expenses, which will amount to about 300 dollars, but also so took up our time that we may well say: "our days were like those of a day-laborer." Not until the middle of December could we move into our new dwelling-house, finished only for the barest necessity. Thanks be to the LORD that in the month of July of last year He gave me a truly faithful helper in Missionary E. Roeder, who bore all the burdens with me and offered me a replacement for the so grievous loss which we suffered in November 1850.

Commended to the LORD and His grace, as also to your intercession, reverend Fathers and Brethren in Christ, and to the intercession and prayer of our whole Synod and Church, closes
Your
humble fellow-brother in the LORD

Church News.

Honored Mr. President!

Herewith I make to you the most respectful announcement that, after Mr. Ernst Friedrich Hüsemann from the Kingdom of Hanover, hitherto a pupil of the Fort Wayne Seminary, received a regular call as pastor of the Lutheran St. John's Congregation near Lanesville, Harrison Co., Ind., and has passed the examination prescribed, he was ordained by me, in the midst of his congregation, on the Sunday Misericord. Dom., by commission of the Vice-President.

May the faithful Chief Shepherd and Bishop of the Church, Jesus Christ, set the dear brother for a blessing to this congregation, that he may gather again the scattered and establish what remains, through the one saving truth of His Word.

Cincinnati, the 27th of April 1852.
Theod. Wichmann.

The address of the dear brother is:
Rev. E. Huesemann,
Lanesville, P. O. Harrison Co., Ind.

After my hitherto four evang. Luth. congregations in and near Jefferson City, Mo., had consented to my call away to Lancaster, O., the same called Mr. Carl Wilhelm Reinhard Frederking, who had completed his studies in the preachers' seminary at Fort Wayne, Ja., as their regular preacher. He was ordained by me, by commission of Mr. President F. Wyneken, on the 28th of April of this year, with prayer and laying on of hands, in the Zion Church. May the Lord, the faithful God, who hitherto has graciously preserved His Word to the dear congregations against all the raging and raving of the devil and his hosts, further rule with His protection over their new shepherd and his flock committed to him.

Psalm 84, 8. "They get one victory after another, so that one must see that the right God is in Zion."
J. P. Kalb.

The German Ev. Luth. Synod of Missouri, Ohio and other States

Correction.

In the receipt, etc., located at the head of the last column on page 144 of the last Number 18, owing to a confusion of persons noticed only afterwards, an item of $9,50. was included which is intended for a pupil of the Fort Wayne Seminary. In the closing words of the same receipt may the reader be pleased to read, instead of: Verheißung, Vergeltung.
