Das Lied von der Ewigkeit.
I.
Was hat die lieben Märtyrer gestärket
In bittrer Noth, in herbem Leid?
Das Lied der schönen Ewigkeit.
Was hat im Elend Wallende gelabet
Vom Vaterland entfernt so weit?

Kirchliche Nachrichten.
Nachdem die deutsch evangel. luther. Gemeine U. A. C. in Holmes Co., O., den Candidaten Hrn.
Amen.

Ludwig Geyer.

The Song of Eternity.
I.
What has strengthened the dear martyrs
In bitter need, in grievous suffering?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has refreshed the wanderers in exile
Banished so far from the fatherland?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has sustained the tempted
In temptation's burning strife?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has so greatly gladdened the weeping
In the dark hour, in the heavy time?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has so faithfully warned the saints
Against the sweetness of all vices?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has so moved the righteous
To all the bitterness of virtue?
The song of beauteous eternity.
What has led the elect
To the gate of heaven, to glory?
The song of beauteous eternity.
Ah, teach also my heart and my will,
Thou sweet song, to fulfil the heavy course!

Church News.
Whereas the German Evangelical Lutheran congregation U. A. C. in Holmes Co., O., has duly called the candidate Mr. Perlewitz as its pastor, he was ordained in the midst of his congregation on the 2nd Sunday after Easter by me, the undersigned, by commission of the Vice-President, the Rev. Dr. Sihler.
May the Lord of the Church grant this brother wisdom and grace, that he may rightly lead this little flock, gathered with much toil and anxiety; but may the LORD also grant the congregation grace and patience, that it may abide by the truth it has recognized, and amid the manifold grievous persecutions for the sake of the pure confession may not be moved to yield. May our LORD Jesus grant this in grace. Amen.
Carl Friedrich Besel.
The address of this dear brother is accordingly:

My present address:
Friedrich Besel,
P. O. Staunton,
Macoupin Co., Ill..
The Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel congregation near Mayville, Wisconsin, was served by me only in a makeshift fashion on account of too great a distance. It greatly desired to have its own shepherd in its midst, who could provide it more abundantly with God's Word. Since, under God's blessing, they had grown so strong as to be able to maintain a pastor of their own, they called Mr. Martin Stephan, student of theology at the Concordia-Collegium near St. Louis, as their pastor. He was solemnly ordained by me, by commission of the President of the Synod, before the assembled congregation and inducted into his office, with obligation to all the Symbols of our Lutheran Church.
May the Lord of the harvest, who has now occupied this field also, grant the new pastor grace that he may labor with blessing among the flock entrusted to him, and that the Word proclaimed by him may find good entrance also into the hearts of those who still stand afar off. May He give him one victory after another, that every man may see: God is with the congregation and its pastor.
Ludwig Geyer.
