(Man könnte in manchen Kirchen solche Predigerköpfe brauchen;)

A Preacher Who Still Preaches in Death.

Of the old Johann Brentz it is told that he often declared from the pulpit at Stuttgart that after his death he wished to have his little bed of rest in the church in which he had preached God's Word pure and clear for many years, directly opposite the pulpit. He is also said to have often admonished and entreated, with great earnestness, his colleagues and fellow-helpers in the holy ministry and his hearers, that after his decease they should by God's help steadfastly persevere in such pure doctrine, and that if anyone, after his death, should presume to bring false, erroneous doctrine into this his pulpit, he would then stretch his old gray head out of the grave and contradict him publicly: for which reason a gravestone or monument is said to have been set up for him afterward, on which his head was hewn out in such a manner that it comes out of the stone at the top and the face is directed straight at the pulpit. (One could use such preachers' heads in many churches;)

Church Notice.

Reverend Mr. President!

I herewith report, as in duty bound, that Mr. Friedrich Eppling of Strasburg in Alsace, until now a pupil in the local seminary, after he had received a regular call as assistant preacher and schoolteacher from the German Evang. Luth. Trinity Congregation at Cincinnati and its pastor, Mr. Th. Wichmann, and had passed very well the prescribed examination, was ordained by me on the Wednesday after Cantate (the 21st of May) before the congregation at Fort Wayne, with the assistance of Prof. Pastor Crämer.
