Was that nun Seine Heiligkeit?
Decbr. 1517. abgedruckt ist.)

autumn desired a preacher, because it was sorely beset by Methodists and other sectarians, and in doing so mentioned my brother by name. Since he recognized in this call the will of the Lord, and was likewise directed thither by the president, he resolved to go there in the name of the Lord, and has accordingly departed for his congregation on the 28th of October.
So may He help thee, my dearest brother, the friendly Comforter in all distress, God, the worthy Holy Ghost, who has called thee to this holy office, that thou in His strength, with His fire and with full joyfulness mayest praise the great deeds of God and win many for our eternally beloved Savior, who loved us and gave Himself for us. The grace of the Lord, the prayer of the Church, and the blessing of our dear parents accompany thee into thy distant place. And when thy joyfulness in the Lord's service would grow cold, then think of His faithful, earnest question: "Lovest thou me?" and of His word: "Feed my lambs; feed my sheep!" The LORD be with thee! Amen.
May all brethren in Christ then also include this young plantation in their intercession, that God's Word may be kept pure there, and grow, and be praised.

A Remarkable Payment with Indulgence.
Once upon a time a manuscript codex of the first five books of the history of Cornelius Tacitus was stolen from the library of the Benedictine monastery at . . . . This stolen codex at last came, through several hands, into the possession of His Holiness, Pope Leo the Tenth. What did His Holiness now do? He had the work printed and sent to the monastery a beautifully bound copy of it. And in order that the monks, as the Pope himself writes, "might see that from this theft there had arisen to them rather an advantage than a disadvantage, we (Leo X.) have granted to the church of their monastery a perpetual indulgence." — Was that not a great condescension and liberality of the holy father?
(See: Schmidt's Brandenburg Kirchenhistorie, where the letter of the Pope, dated 1 December 1517, is printed.)
